1 February 2019 Córdoba Tourism Agency Obtains UNWTO.QUEST Certification
The Córdoba Tourism Agency (Agencia Córdoba Turismo) has received the World Tourism Organization’s UNWTO.QUEST Certification, whereby the specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and accessible tourism for all, promotes the strengthening of the institutional capacities of destination management organizations (DMOs) and public-private integration in destinations.
29 January 2019 The Tourism Observatory of Navarre joins the UNWTO International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO)
Madrid, Spain, 28 January 2019 – Navarre’s observatory is the first tourism observatory in Spain to join INSTO, bringing the number of network members to 25. 28 January 2019 San Sebastian will host the 5th edition of the UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Basque Culinary Center (BCC) have signed the Agreement for the holding of the 5th UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism (San Sebastian, Spain 2-3 May 2019). The new edition of this global forum is supported by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of Spain, the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the City of San Sebastián.
25 January 2019 First ever UNWTO/IPSOS Survey – Citizens recognize the positive impact of tourism
Madrid, Spain, 24 January 2019 – According to the first ever global survey conducted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and IPSOS, 47% of respondents think ‘they live in cities with a high number of tourists’. Over 50% considers tourism has a positive impact in generating wealth and promoting cultural exchanges, and 49% feel there should be measures to improve tourism management. Only 12% of respondents favour limitations to the number of visitors.

24 January, Madrid, Spain - Refundit, an Israeli startup, was declared the winner in the final phase of the 1st Global Tourism Startup Competition, organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Globalia, and held within the framework of the FITUR International Tourism Fair, topping 3,000 entries from around the world.

22 January 2019 Spain reaffirms support for UNWTO and announces new headquarters site
Madrid, 22 January 2019 - To mark the start of FITUR 2019, an inaugural reception was held today, presided over for the first time by the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, alongside the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism of Spain, Reyes Maroto.
