10 August 2017 World Tourism Day 2017 celebrated on the theme Sustainable Tourism – a Tool for Development
This year’s World Tourism Day, held on 27 September, will be focused on Sustainable Tourism – a Tool for Development. Celebrated in line with the 2017 International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, the Day will be dedicated to exploring the contribution of tourism to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), representing thirty of the main donor countries, has included the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the List of ODA- eligible International Organizations.

18 July 2017 UNWTO.Themis Foundation trains 15 countries on crisis communications
Representatives from 15 Member States of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) took part in a three-day training course on crisis communications at the headquarters of the UNWTO.Themis Foundation in the Principality of Andorra. The training, organized by UNWTO and the UNWTO.Themis Foundation, aimed to build resilience at tourism destinations by creating capacity to develop and implement crisis communications strategies. 
14 July 2017 Strong tourism results in the first part of 2017
International tourist arrivals worldwide grew by 6% in January-April of 2017 compared to the same period last year, with business confidence reaching its highest levels in a decade. Sustained growth in most major destinations and a steady rebound in others drove results. Prospects for May-August 2017 remain high.
14 July 2017 UNWTO hosts meeting of global leaders on fighting sexual exploitation of children in tourism
The Headquarters of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Madrid has hosted a meeting of experts to discuss measures the fight against child sexual exploitation in the tourism sector. The initiative is coordinated by ECPAT International with the support of the government of The Netherlands. 
13 July 2017 Tourism key to foster trade in Least Developed Countries
Tourism can make a strong contribution to the economies of Least Developed Countries where the sector is a major exporter concludes the report ‘Tourism for Sustainable Development in Least Developed Countries’ launched on the occasion of the Aid for Trade Review held in Geneva. The report was produced by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF).
7 July 2017 UNWTO hosts the presentation of the UNCTAD Report on Tourism as a Driver of Transformative and Inclusive Growth in Africa
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has partnered with UNCTAD, the United Nations Conference on Development and Trade, to present the Annual Report on Economic Development in Africa at UNWTO’s Headquarters in Madrid. The 2017 edition focuses on Tourism as a catalyst for Transformative and Inclusive Growth in the continent and underlines the immense potential of the sector. 
6 July 2017 World Tourism Organization presents survey on Gastronomy Tourism
Under the title 'Gastronomy Tourism: Future Outlook, Trends, Research and Experiences', the World Tourism Organization presented the results of a survey on gastronomy tourism at its headquarters in Madrid. The survey data form part of the World Tourism Organization’s Global Report on Gastronomy Tourism, and were compiled by Madison Experience Marketing, an Affiliate Member of the UNWTO since 2014. 
4 July 2017 UNWTO appoints the President of Malta as Special Ambassador of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development
Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, President of the Republic of Malta, has been nominated as Special Ambassador of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. The appointment took place at a ceremony held at the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Headquarters in Madrid.
