12 June 2017 Moldova hosts the 61st Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for Europe
Over 30 countries and Affiliate Members of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) gathered last week in Chisinau, the capital city of the Republic of Moldova, for the 61st Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for Europe. Participants discussed the priority areas for the Organization as well as strategies to position the tourism sector as a key driver of sustainable development in Europe (6 June 2017).
12 June 2017 Prime Minister of Samoa appointed Special Ambassador of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development by UNWTO during the Ocean Conference
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has appointed the Prime Minister of Samoa, Hon. Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, as Special Ambassador of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism 2017. The ceremony took place in New York on 7 June on the side-lines of the UN Ocean Conference, where among other activities the Prime Minister addressed participants on the value of tourism to sustainably advance the blue economy.

As part of the observance of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017, Mastercard, a leading global payments and technology company, has signed an agreement with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to support this global campaign. Through the agreement, Mastercard becomes a Diamond Partner of the International Year. 
9 June 2017 Ambassador of Mexico presents credentials to World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
The Ambassador of Mexico, S.E. Ms Roberta Lajous, has presented her credentials to the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Taleb Rifai, accrediting her as Permanent Representative of her country to UNWTO. UNWTO is the United Nations specialized agency for tourism and is based in Madrid, Spain.

The Ambassador of Colombia, H.E. Mr Alberto Jacobo Furmanski Goldstein, has presented his credentials to the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Taleb Rifai, accrediting him as Permanent Representative of his country to UNWTO. 8 June 2017 61st meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas addresses application of technology to tourism
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), together with the Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador and the Honduran Institute of Tourism, jointly held the 61st Meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas. The meeting, which took place in San Salvador and Roatán on 30 and 31 May 2017, respectively, culminated in an international seminar on new technologies applied to tourism on 1 June 2017.
7 June 2017 UNWTO and the JTTA partner to foster gastronomy tourism in Japan
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Japan Travel and Tourism Association (JTTA) and Gurunavi Inc. have undersigned an agreement to develop a “UNWTO Affiliate Members Report on Gastronomy Tourism: Japan.” The report will contribute to capitalize the potential of this segment in the Nippon country and add to the existing UNWTO research on gastronomy tourism. 
7 June 2017 UNWTO and CENFOTUR to launch report on ‘Talent Development, Key for Destination Competitiveness’
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and CENFOTUR, the official training center of the Ministry of Tourism in Peru have signed a cooperation agreement to develop a report ‘Talent Development – Key for Destination Competitiveness.” The report will offer an extensive analysis of the importance of capacity building as a determining factor in the success of tourism destinations, with a special focus on Latin America and Peru.
