Mr. Shuichi Kameyama is currently Special Advisor for Tourism, Sports and Mega Events at the UNWTO headquarters in Madrid, Spain.
Prior to his appointment at UNWTO, Mr. Kameyama occupied several positions in Japan Tourism Agency (Tokyo) and Japan National Tourism Organization (Tokyo and New York) from 2008 to 2016. During these eight years, he was in charge of promoting Japan as a destination and helping to orchestrate the current rapid growth of inbound tourism to Japan after the tsunami disaster of 2011. After Tokyo’s successful bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, Mr. Kamekyama prepared a tourism promotion strategy leveraging the Games for Japan.
Mr. Kameyama began his professional career with the Ministry of Transport (currently Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) of Japan in 1988 and worked in various departments of the Ministry such as civil aviation, international relations and policy coordination.
Mr. Kameyama holds a Master’s Degree in Tourism and Travel Management from New York University and another in Development Studies from University of Bath, U.K. He received his Bachelor Degree in Law from University of Tokyo.
Mr. Kameyama is a Japanese national.
