José García Blanch
Mr. Blanch is Director of Administration and Finance at the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), a position held since 2009.
Prior to his appointment at the UNWTO, Mr. Blanch has served in other International Organizations in Financial and Administrative areas at the European Commission (2004-2007), the World Intellectual Property Organization (1996-2004) and the International Monetary Fund (1992-1996). Mr. Blanch is also a career civil servant from Spain’s central administration since 1984, where he worked at the Central Budget Office (Finance Ministry), the Transportation Ministry and Spain’s Nuclear Security Council.
Mr. Blanch began his professional career as a Civil Engineer in 1980 in an Engineering Firm (Tecnicas Reunidas S.A.) working in the energy sector, as he holds an advanced degree in Civil Engineering by Madrid Polytechnic University (1979). He also holds advanced degrees in Public Administration (1992) and Economics (1995) from The George Washington University where he was a Fulbright Scholar.
Mr. Blanch is a Spanish national, born in 1957. He is married and has three daughters. He enjoys reading, hiking, and is a keen air pilot (JAR-PPL).
